An independent reference for one denomination
Half dollars are the only US coin that changed composition twice inside a decade, which is why so many people end up holding one and not knowing what it is.
What this is
A reference for United States half dollars, built on Mint specifications and a live silver price. Every date from 1892 has a page. Every series has a page. The arithmetic that turns a coin's statutory weight into what its metal is worth today runs on all of them.
What it is not
Not a dealer. We do not buy coins, sell coins, or hold inventory. There is no appraisal service and no price guide.
Not affiliated with the Mint or with any grading service, auction house or retailer.
How it makes money
Two ways, both of which are disclosed where they happen. Some links on the buying page may earn a commission if you buy through them, and those links are labelled individually. And we may in future introduce sellers to dealers who buy collections, which we will only ever do by naming the dealer and asking you first.
Neither of those changes a single figure on the site. The melt value of a 1964 half dollar is arithmetic, and there is no commercial arrangement under which it could come out differently.
Who runs it
It is part of a small portfolio of independent reference sites. Corrections, questions and complaints all go to hello@halfdollars.com and are read by a person.
